Egypt to receive €1.5 billion EU funding tranche as macro-financial aid progresses

Egypt is set to receive €1.5 billion from the European Union in the coming days as part of a broader macro-financial assistance programme aimed at supporting the country’s economy, according to Egyptian officials.

The disbursement represents the first of two remaining instalments under a €5 billion EU assistance package designed to strengthen fiscal stability and support ongoing economic reforms.

EU financial support entering next phase

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty confirmed that the payment will be transferred shortly, marking a continuation of financial cooperation between Cairo and Brussels.

The remaining €3 billion of the package is expected to be delivered in two equal tranches of €1.5 billion each, subject to agreed conditions and implementation milestones.

The announcement was made during a press briefing in Egypt’s new administrative capital alongside European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica.

Strengthening economic cooperation

The macro-financial assistance programme is part of a wider effort by the European Union to support partner countries facing economic pressures, including fiscal deficits and external financing needs.

Officials described the funding as a key element in reinforcing macroeconomic stability while encouraging structural reforms in Egypt’s economy.
