Democratic lawmakers criticize US policy toward Cuba after congressional visit

A group of Democratic members of the United States Congress has criticized Washington's current policy toward Cuba, arguing that recent measures have worsened the island's humanitarian and economic challenges.

The lawmakers made their remarks after a multi-day visit to Cuba, where they met with government officials, healthcare professionals, business representatives, and local residents to assess conditions on the ground.

During the visit, the delegation expressed concern over the impact of restrictions affecting Cuba's energy sector, saying prolonged shortages have disrupted daily life for millions of people. They pointed to frequent power outages, transportation difficulties, pressure on healthcare services, and the broader economic hardships facing the population.

Some members of the delegation used strong language to describe the humanitarian situation, arguing that ordinary Cuban citizens are bearing the consequences of political tensions between Havana and Washington. They urged policymakers to prioritize humanitarian considerations while maintaining diplomatic engagement.
