Death toll rises to three in Stockholm bus crash

Swedish authorities confirmed late Friday that the death toll from a severe bus accident in central Stockholm has risen to three, as police continue working to identify the victims.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. local time on Valhallavägen, a major thoroughfare in the Östermalm district. According to police, the double-decker bus — which was not carrying passengers — collided with a pole near a bus stop before rolling forward and striking several pedestrians.

Three people, including the driver, remain hospitalized. Investigators emphasized that there is currently no indication of terrorism, though the exact cause of the accident is still unclear.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his condolences on the social media platform X, describing the incident as a “tragic” event affecting people likely “on their way home to family, friends, or a peaceful evening.”

Emergency services — including police, ambulance teams, and rescue units — continue to secure the area and support the victims. Kristersson called on the public to respect the ongoing work of first responders during what he described as “a very difficult and important task.”
