Controversy Surrounding 'Momo Show': Hit Radio Disavows Alleged Staged On-Air Robbery
Hit Radio, a leading Moroccan broadcasting station, vehemently refutes any involvement in a staged robbery that unfolded during a recent live airing. The incident, which gripped audiences and fueled widespread speculation, has prompted a thorough investigation by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
In a statement released today, Hit Radio firmly denied any connection to the orchestrated events, labeling them as "completely contrary to our values." The station emphasized its unwavering dedication to integrity and transparency, asserting that its staff is "entirely uninvolved in this matter."
The alleged on-air robbery took place during the popular "Momo Morning Show," hosted by Mohamed Bousfiha, known as "Momo." A caller, posing as a regular listener, engaged with Momo before the host abruptly exclaimed, "A thief, a thief!" suggesting a live robbery was occurring.
However, investigations by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) uncovered a carefully planned hoax. The caller had assumed a false identity, and with an accomplice, staged a fictitious robbery scene, purportedly for personal gain and to boost the station's ratings.
Hit Radio maintains its innocence, asserting no prior knowledge or involvement in the staged incident. The station expressed readiness to fully cooperate with authorities to uncover the truth and ensure justice.
Moreover, Hit Radio reserves the right to pursue legal action against those responsible for damaging its reputation with "baseless accusations." The statement emphasized the station's respect for law enforcement and judicial authorities and appreciation for their efforts in maintaining public security.
As investigations progress, the public prosecutor at the Ain Sebaa Court in Casablanca has ordered Momo to pay MAD 100,000 (approximately $9,500) in bail and remain under constant surveillance. Additionally, two individuals face charges of fabricating a false crime and insulting an organized entity and will be referred to Ain Sebaa Local Prison (Oukacha) for further legal proceedings.
