Colombia accuses Ecuador of alleged election interference amid rising trade tensions

Colombia’s foreign ministry has accused Ecuador of “deliberate interference” in its presidential election, escalating diplomatic tensions between the two neighboring countries amid an ongoing trade dispute.

The controversy emerged after Ecuadorian authorities announced a decision to lift certain bilateral tariffs following discussions between Ecuador’s president and a Colombian presidential candidate. Colombian officials argued that the timing and nature of the announcement could influence the electoral process and questioned its neutrality.
