Chinese commerce minister meets Volkswagen and Bosch leaders to discuss trade ties
China’s commerce minister, Wang Wentao, held talks with executives from major German companies Volkswagen Group and Bosch to address key issues and opportunities in economic relations between China and the European Union.
The meeting took place in Beijing on Sunday, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation while managing rising trade tensions between the two economic powers.
During the discussions, Wang stressed the importance of resolving trade disputes through constructive dialogue and consultation. According to a statement released by China’s Ministry of Commerce, he called for a balanced approach to handling frictions that have emerged in recent years, particularly in sectors such as automotive manufacturing and advanced technology.
The talks come at a time when economic relations between China and the European Union are facing increasing scrutiny, with both sides seeking to protect strategic industries while maintaining open trade channels. German firms, including Volkswagen and Bosch, have long maintained a strong presence in the Chinese market, making them key stakeholders in bilateral economic discussions.
Officials highlighted the need to ensure stability in global supply chains and to foster a predictable business environment for international companies operating in China. The meeting also underscored the role of multinational corporations in bridging economic cooperation between regions.
Further details of the discussions were not disclosed, but the dialogue signals a willingness from both sides to maintain engagement despite ongoing economic challenges.
