China condemns EU sanctions on Chinese entities over Russia links
China has strongly criticized the decision by the European Union to include Chinese companies in its latest sanctions package targeting Russia, escalating diplomatic tensions between Beijing and Brussels.
The dispute follows the EU’s 20th round of sanctions, which focuses on restricting entities in third countries accused of supplying dual-use technologies and other sensitive goods that could support Russia’s military capabilities. Several firms based in China were reportedly included in the list.
In response, China’s Ministry of Commerce expressed strong opposition, calling for the immediate removal of the listed companies. Officials stated that the measures undermine trust and go against the spirit of recent diplomatic understandings between China and the EU.
Beijing also warned that it may take countermeasures to protect its national interests and affected companies. Authorities emphasized that responsibility for any negative consequences resulting from the sanctions would lie with the European side.
The EU has maintained that its sanctions are aimed at limiting Russia’s access to critical technologies amid ongoing geopolitical tensions linked to the conflict in Ukraine. The bloc has repeatedly tightened restrictions targeting supply chains believed to support Moscow’s defense sector.
Relations between China and the EU have faced increasing pressure in recent years, particularly over trade imbalances, technology controls, and differing positions on global security issues. Analysts note that the latest dispute could further complicate already sensitive diplomatic ties.
