Burj Khalifa to be lit in India’s tricolour on independence day

On Friday, August 15, as India celebrates its 79th Independence Day, Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa will be illuminated in the Indian national tricolour. This display has become an integral part of Independence Day celebrations by the Indian community across the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to the Indian Consulate in Dubai, the lighting of Burj Khalifa in the tricolour will begin at 7:50 pm local time. Other major landmarks in the UAE are also expected to join in, marking India’s Independence with colorful displays.

Flag hoisting ceremonies have been scheduled early in the morning due to the summer heat. The Indian Consulate in Dubai will hold its ceremony at 6:30 am, while the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi will do so at 7:15 am. Ambassador Sanjay Sudhir will lead the event in Abu Dhabi, and Consul General Satish Kumar Sivan will preside over the Dubai ceremony.

Indians represent the largest expatriate community in the UAE, with approximately 4.3 million nationals residing in the country, accounting for about 35% of the total population. The Independence Day celebrations highlight the strong ties between the Indian community and their host nation.
