Betharram school site to close, says catholic education official
The site hosting the Betharram educational institution is expected to close by the coming summer, according to a senior representative of Catholic education authorities in France.
Speaking on French radio, Pierre-Vincent Guéret, president of the National Federation of Management Bodies for Catholic Education (Fnogec), confirmed that the closure is now a formal decision. He explained that while the institution itself will cease operations at its current location, educational activities are expected to continue elsewhere.
“From an institutional perspective, Betharram will close. From an operational point of view, it must relocate,” Guéret said, emphasizing that the process remains subject to approval from Rome.
The establishment is overseen by the Congregation of the Fathers of Betharram, whose leadership is based in the Vatican. As a result, final authorization must come from church authorities before the relocation plans can be fully implemented.
The announcement marks a significant turning point for the historic Catholic institution, with discussions now focused on logistical arrangements and the future framework for continuing educational services outside the current site.
