Benabdallah critiques government action and outlines PPS alternative

Mohammed Nabil Benabdallah, Secretary-General of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), delivered a detailed critique of government policies during his appearance on the television program Saâat Assaraha, which aims to provide direct dialogue and public engagement.

Benabdallah focused on pressing social issues including social protection, purchasing power, housing, and regional inequalities. He highlighted gaps between government claims and actual coverage, noting that around 1.5 million Moroccans remain outside social protection schemes, and called for broader inclusion by 2028. He also proposed reducing household out-of-pocket costs from 34% to 25%.

On economic matters, Benabdallah criticized measures addressing fuel prices and inflation, emphasizing the need for more robust market regulation, VAT adjustments, and consumer price controls. Regarding housing, he highlighted rising costs that have strained existing programs and called for reforms grounded in social integration and community engagement.

Benabdallah also addressed pensions, youth employment, and artisanal sectors, advocating for policies that support long-term sustainability and job creation. Politically, he stressed the importance of electoral mobilization, particularly among young people and women, while highlighting the need for a progressive democratic bloc and a more substantive public debate.

Through this appearance, Benabdallah presented both a critique of current governance and the outline of a PPS-led alternative, positioning his party for the upcoming September 2026 elections.
