Avalanche in Italian Alps kills two skiers, one seriously injured
Two off-piste skiers were killed in an avalanche on Sunday in the Italian Alps near Courmayeur, while a third remains in serious condition, according to the Italian Alpine Rescue Service (CNSAS). The victims, a woman and two men, are “probably” French nationals, authorities said.
One skier died at the scene, the second passed away at the hospital, and the third is currently receiving treatment in Turin. The avalanche struck a section of the Canale dei Vesses, known for its steep, challenging routes popular with off-piste skiers, located west of Courmayeur in the Val Veny area at the foot of Mont Blanc.
Rescue operations involved fifteen rescuers, search dogs, and two helicopters, as officials worked to secure the area and assist the injured.
