The Argentine Parliament voted on Wednesday by a large majority to limit the use of decree-laws, a governing tool frequently employed by President Javier Milei during his 22 months in office.

This marks yet another setback for the libertarian leader, who has faced multiple defeats in Congress in recent months, including on key reforms and presidential vetoes. The move highlights Milei’s growing difficulties in governing with a minority in Parliament, which increasingly asserts its power in clashes with the executive.

The vote represents a significant institutional pushback against Milei’s attempts to govern unilaterally through emergency decrees — a practice criticized by opposition lawmakers as undermining democratic checks and balances.
