Anthropic valuation nears 900 billion dollars after new funding round
Anthropic is close to finalizing a new funding round of at least 30 billion dollars at a pre-money valuation exceeding 900 billion dollars, a move that would position the artificial intelligence developer behind Claude as the world’s most valuable startup. The deal would surpass the valuation of OpenAI, which reached 852 billion dollars in March, according to multiple financial reports, with closing expected by the end of May.
The investment round is expected to be co-led by major venture capital firms including Sequoia Capital, Dragoneer Investment Group, Altimeter Capital, and Greenoaks Capital Partners, each reportedly committing around 2 billion dollars. Additional participation comes from Founders Fund and General Catalyst, both of which previously backed the company in earlier financing rounds. The scale of investor demand has pushed private market valuations even higher, with secondary share trading already implying a valuation close to 1 trillion dollars.
Anthropic’s rapid rise in valuation follows a steep acceleration in its financial performance. The company has projected 10.9 billion dollars in revenue for the second quarter, more than double the 4.8 billion recorded in the first quarter. If achieved, this would mark the company’s first operating profit, estimated at approximately 559 million dollars. Annualized revenue has reportedly reached 30 billion dollars, compared with around 9 billion at the end of 2025, reflecting one of the fastest growth trajectories in the software industry.
The company’s expansion has been supported by major strategic commitments from technology giants. Google has pledged up to 40 billion dollars in investment, while Amazon has committed 5 billion dollars at a 350 billion dollar valuation, with plans for further funding over time. Anthropic has also secured access to large-scale computing infrastructure, including the full capacity of the Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, giving it access to more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs, strengthening its position in the global AI race.
The new funding round is widely viewed as a step toward a high-profile initial public offering expected as early as 2026. Market observers see the company’s escalating valuation and aggressive expansion of compute resources as part of a broader consolidation phase in the artificial intelligence sector, where access to capital and computing power increasingly determines competitive positioning.
