Anthropic reaches record valuation after massive new funding round

AI startup Anthropic has secured a $65 billion Series H funding round at a post-money valuation of $965 billion, becoming the world’s most valuable artificial intelligence startup and overtaking rival OpenAI. The financing marks one of the largest private capital raises ever completed by a technology company and reflects the accelerating competition among firms developing advanced AI systems and infrastructure.

The funding round was co-led by major investment groups including Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital. Additional participation came from Capital Group, Coatue and D1 Capital Partners. The deal follows months of intense investor interest after Anthropic signaled in April that it was targeting a valuation above $900 billion.

The company’s rise has been exceptionally rapid. Founded five years ago by former OpenAI executives, Anthropic completed a $30 billion Series G financing round only three months earlier at a valuation of $380 billion. Investor demand intensified as the company’s revenue expanded sharply and as AI infrastructure spending surged across the technology sector. Reports from earlier fundraising discussions indicated that investors were given only a short period to secure allocations in the latest round because demand exceeded available shares.

Part of the financing structure includes previously committed capital from large technology partners, including a $5 billion investment from Amazon made at a lower valuation. Strategic chip industry investors also joined the round, including Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron. All three semiconductor manufacturers have benefited from soaring demand for high-bandwidth memory chips used in AI systems and data centers.

Anthropic’s revenue growth has become a major driver of investor enthusiasm. The company is reportedly on track to generate $10.9 billion in revenue during the second quarter alone, a figure that would mark its first profitable quarter and exceed its total revenue for all of 2025. At the current pace, annualized revenue would approach $44 billion, although analysts expect that figure could rise further if enterprise AI adoption continues accelerating through the second half of the year.

The latest financing is widely expected to become Anthropic’s final private fundraising round before an initial public offering. Company executives have reportedly discussed the possibility of a stock market listing as early as the fourth quarter of 2026. Members of the board are said to view the current raise as the last major private financing needed before entering public markets.

Anthropic’s $965 billion valuation now exceeds OpenAI’s most recent post-money valuation of $852 billion, achieved during a March financing round. The gap between the two companies has narrowed at remarkable speed. In September 2025, Anthropic was valued at only $183 billion during its Series F round, underscoring how aggressively investors are pricing companies positioned at the center of the global AI race.
