Aïn Sebaâ 1 prison denies medical negligence after inmate death
The administration of Aïn Sebaâ 1 Prison has denied claims of medical negligence following the death of an inmate identified as Z.K., who passed away on February 20, 2026, at Ibn Rochd University Hospital.
According to the prison, Z.K. had been admitted to the hospital on February 2 due to chronic kidney failure and cardiovascular disease. The administration emphasized that allegations circulating on social media suggesting that the death resulted from medical neglect are unfounded.
The inmate had been held in preventive detention at Aïn Sebaâ 1 for charges including forming a criminal gang, assault, and drug trafficking. Authorities confirmed that he had received continuous medical attention during his imprisonment and hospitalization.
The prison administration stated that it remains committed to ensuring proper healthcare for all detainees and will continue to monitor the medical treatment provided to prisoners to prevent such incidents in the future.
