Harris Vows to Intensify DOJ's Cartel Crackdown, Addressing Fentanyl Crisis
In a powerful speech delivered in Las Vegas, Vice President Kamala Harris outlined her commitment to tackling the devastating impact of drug cartels and the flow of fentanyl into the United States. Harris's bold initiative aims to "double" the resources allocated to the Department of Justice, sending a clear message of determination to combat the escalating drug crisis.
"As president, I will prioritize the fight against transnational cartels and take decisive action to curb the influx of fentanyl, which has become a deadly threat to our communities," Harris declared. Her pledge comes amidst a backdrop of alarming statistics, with over 100,000 drug overdose deaths recorded last year, a significant portion of which were attributed to synthetic opioids, primarily fentanyl.
Harris's stance stands in stark contrast to the rhetoric of former President Donald Trump, who, at a rally in Wisconsin, falsely accused her of advocating for the legalization of fentanyl. Trump's claims, repeated at a subsequent rally in Pennsylvania, highlight the political divide surrounding this critical issue.
In her speech, Harris emphasized the need for comprehensive immigration reform, combining strong border security with an earned pathway to citizenship for hardworking immigrants, including Dreamers. She pointed to Trump's role in derailing a bipartisan border deal in Congress, positioning herself as a leader committed to finding a balanced and humane solution.
The Nevada Democratic Party reported a strong turnout of over 7,500 attendees at the rally, marking Harris's second campaign event in the state since announcing her presidential bid.
