Biden Approves Use of Advanced U.S. Missiles by Ukraine for Deeper Strikes into Russia
President Joe Biden has approved Ukraine's use of U.S.-provided long-range missiles, granting Kyiv permission to launch deeper strikes within Russian territory. This decision marks a shift in the restrictions on the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMs), allowing Ukrainian forces to expand their operations into more distant regions of Russia. This move comes as Russia increases its military presence, notably deploying thousands of North Korean troops along Ukraine's northern border in an effort to regain territory lost to Ukrainian forces.
The decision also follows the recent election of Donald Trump as president, a leader who has expressed intentions to swiftly end the ongoing conflict and raised questions about the future of U.S. military support for Ukraine.
The announcement, made by an anonymous U.S. official and others familiar with the matter, was not meant for public disclosure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the news with a measured reaction.
