Condolences from King Mohammed VI to Pope Francis Following the Death of Pope Benedict XVI
In a heartfelt message, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, expressed his deep sorrow upon learning of the death of His Holiness Pope Francis The King extended his condolences and sympathy through a telegram sent to His Eminence Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the Dean of the College of Cardinals in Vatican City.
The message, which conveys profound sadness, wishes the Pope eternal peace, asking God to welcome him into His kingdom with mercy and forgiveness. The King paid tribute to Pope Francis I’s lifelong commitment to the values of faith, peace, freedom, and solidarity, highlighting his tireless efforts to combat poverty, marginalization, and promote human dignity. The Pope’s advocacy for environmental preservation and his constant call for peace and dialogue among all faiths were also praised.
The message further remembered the Pope’s historic visit to Morocco in 2019, which strengthened the bonds between Morocco and the Vatican, culminating in the signing of the "Jerusalem Declaration." This agreement advocates for the rights of followers of all three monotheistic religions to access the Holy City and practice their faith freely.
In closing, His Majesty prayed for strength and comfort for the Christian world and asked for divine mercy upon the soul of the late Pope, quoting, "To God we belong and to Him we shall return."
