In a revealing interview on ABtalks' YouTube channel, Moroccan international footballer Achraf Hakimi shared the untold story behind his memorable "penguin dance" celebration during Morocco's historic World Cup 2022 victory over Spain, while also addressing recent speculation about his financial arrangements.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender explained that the widely-discussed celebration originated from playful interactions with his former PSG teammates Sergio Ramos and Kylian Mbappé. What became an iconic World Cup moment started as friendly banter among teammates, with Hakimi ultimately choosing to perform it as a gesture of friendship toward Ramos rather than any attempt to antagonize Spain, a nation he deeply respects as his second home.
Turning to personal matters, Hakimi clarified long-standing arrangements regarding his assets being registered under his mother's name. He explained that this structure originated during his early professional career when, as a minor, he required adult supervision of his finances. His mother assumed this responsibility, and their trusted relationship has maintained this arrangement into his adult years.
Addressing recent media speculation, Hakimi emphasized that these financial arrangements predated both his marriage and subsequent divorce, directly countering suggestions that the structure was implemented in response to marital disputes. This systematic approach to his finances, he explained, was purely a continuation of early career practical solutions rather than a strategic move related to his personal life.
