Morocco's robust deradicalization endeavors have yielded positive results, with over 300 former detainees benefiting from the kingdom's comprehensive "Moussalaha" program, officials report.

Launched in 2017, Moussalaha adopts a multi-pronged approach to reintegrate individuals convicted on extremism and terrorism charges back into society through rehabilitation efforts.

The most recent statistics indicate that 21 more individuals have successfully completed the program's 14th edition at Sale Prison, bringing the total number of rehabilitated individuals through Moussalaha to 322 since its inception. The initiative is overseen by the Moussalaha Center, established last November through a partnership aimed at coordinating and implementing such initiatives effectively.

Dignitaries and key figures graced the graduation ceremony, including General Delegate for Penitentiary Administration and Reintegration Mohamed Saleh Tamek, Secretary-General of the Rabita Mohammadia of Scholars Ahmed Abbadi, and National Human Rights Council President Amina Bouayach. The presence of representatives from institutional partners, as well as experts and trainers, underscores the collective commitment to the success of the program.

Morocco's approach to deradicalization is characterized by its multifaceted strategy targeting extremism at the individual, religious, and societal levels. Participants undergo training aimed at elucidating Islam's true teachings of moderation, openness, and tolerance. This holistic model not only helps safeguard society from threats but also facilitates the rehabilitation of detainees.

International observers have lauded Morocco's proactive stance in combating extremism. A recent report by the US State Department commended the nation's vigilant security measures, regional cooperation efforts, and effective counter-radicalization policies. The decline in terrorism-related arrests last year further indicates the efficacy of Morocco's mitigation efforts. As the Moussalaha program continues to expand its reach, Morocco's comprehensive approach holds promise for long-term deterrence against extremist ideologies.
