Ascending Heights: Canadian Aerospace Firm Soars into Morocco
Moroccan aerospace is soaring to new heights as Canadian manufacturing company Shimco Aviation commits to expanding its presence in the North African kingdom.
On Friday, Shimco signed a landmark agreement with Midparc, an industrial complex in Morocco, marking the beginning of its venture into international production. Situated in the Nouaceur free trade zone near Casablanca, Shimco's newly established 1,300 square meter plant represents an initial investment set to triple in size within seven years.
The agreement was praised by Hamid Benbrahim El Andaloussi, President of Midparc, who underscored Morocco's competitive advantages that attracted Shimco to the region. With its skilled workforce and cost-effective environment, Morocco offers aerospace companies an optimal platform for expanding their global operations.
Peter Voss, President and CEO of Shimco, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the strategic advantages of the plant's location for accessing both the European and African markets. "Morocco presents an excellent opportunity. Its burgeoning aerospace sector and supportive business ecosystem make it the perfect destination for our international growth plans," he stated.
Shimco's announcement further cements Midparc's position as a pivotal hub for aerospace activity. Already hosting industry giants like Boeing and Stelia Maroc, the industrial complex stands at the forefront of Morocco's aerospace advancement. This positive trajectory is bolstered by robust orders projected over the next decade from industry leaders such as Boeing and Airbus.
Analysts attribute Morocco's strategic geographic location bridging Europe, Africa, and the Middle East as a significant contributing factor. Additionally, unwavering government support through incentives and specialized training programs has played a crucial role. Initiatives like the Moulay Hafid Aviation Valley and Moroccan Aerospace Institute are nurturing a skilled workforce essential for attracting foreign investment and ensuring the sector's long-term viability.
As international players like Shimco expand their presence in Morocco, the kingdom's emergence as a frontrunner in aerospace manufacturing is set to scale unprecedented heights.
