The 19th World Sufi Meeting commenced on Wednesday evening in Madagh, Berkane Province, Morocco, under the theme "Sufism and the Fate of Values in the Age of Artificial Intelligence." This prestigious event, held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, brings together academics, thinkers, and researchers from around the globe to explore the complex relationship between spiritual traditions and cutting-edge technology.

Organized by the Qadiriya Boutchichiya Order and the Meeting Foundation, in partnership with the Euro-Mediterranean Center for the Study of Islam Today, this year's gathering focuses on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on human values. The conference aims to address the challenges of preserving cultural and religious identities in an increasingly digitized world.

Participants are tasked with finding effective ways to harness the benefits of modern technology while safeguarding ethical and human values. This balanced approach seeks to reconcile the advantages of technological advancement with the preservation of spiritual and moral principles.

Munir Al-Qadiri Boudchich, director of the World Sufi Meeting, emphasized the event's significance as an academic platform that addresses aspects of Sufism and contemporary issues. He stated, "This event seeks to be an opportunity to reflect on an important issue that imposes itself on our contemporary reality – the relationship between Sufism and human values in light of accelerating technological development, especially with the emergence of artificial intelligence."

Boudchich acknowledged the vast opportunities for innovation that AI presents but also highlighted the questions it raises about the future of values and ethics. He asserted that in an era where technology influences many aspects of life, the spiritual and moral values of Sufism become increasingly important.

"Artificial intelligence, despite its tremendous capabilities, cannot replace the human and spiritual values that govern our actions and intentions," Boudchich added, underscoring the enduring relevance of Sufi teachings in the modern world.

The conference program, running until September 16, includes scientific sessions discussing the chosen theme, as well as parallel activities such as a Quranic memorization and recitation competition, a youth forum, poetry and Sufi text contests, and a book exhibition.

Additionally, the event will feature the 12th edition of the Solidarity Village under the slogan "Rational Management of Natural Resources: Between Ethical Responsibility and Technological Innovation." This component aims to contribute to the consideration of spiritual aspects in societal development.

As Morocco positions itself at the forefront of discussions on AI and spirituality, this gathering serves as a unique forum for exploring how ancient wisdom can guide the ethical implementation of futuristic technologies. The World Sufi Meeting continues to provide a platform for critical dialogue on preserving human values in an increasingly AI-driven world.
