In a call to bolster international security, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, has underscored the necessity of deepening cooperation and dialogue between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its southern partners.

Amrani delivered his remarks during a panel at the NATO Public Forum, held on the sidelines of the Washington Summit. Highlighting the historical partnership between Morocco and NATO, he emphasized that these ties exemplify a longstanding collaboration aimed at addressing mutual challenges.

“Since the launch of the Mediterranean Dialogue, the Kingdom has consistently sought to build a mutually beneficial collaboration with the alliance to jointly address cross-cutting challenges and shared threats,” Amrani stated.

The ambassador reiterated that such partnerships align with the principles of collective and indivisible security, aimed at tackling common issues. He called for a more robust political dialogue between NATO and its southern partners to foster mutual understanding and establish practical cooperation.

“The emergence of new security challenges calls more than ever for an integrated and comprehensive approach,” Amrani noted. He advocated for more constructive, open, and regular discussions with southern regions to create dynamic interactions with Mediterranean partners.

Amrani also referenced King Mohammed VI's Atlantic Initiative, describing it as a visionary and pragmatic mechanism designed to support the entire region. He emphasized that this approach reflects Morocco’s commitment to fostering a corridor of shared development and prosperity.

NATO has consistently recognized the importance of its cooperation with Morocco in addressing security challenges. The organization regards Morocco as a traditional and key partner, lauding its enduring dedication to international security.

Admiral Rob Bauer, Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, has previously highlighted Morocco’s significant role and active participation in NATO exercises, as well as its expertise in counterterrorism and irregular immigration control.

“NATO is proud to count Morocco among its partners,” Bauer remarked in April, commending the North African country’s contributions to shared security goals.

The call for stronger dialogue and cooperation between NATO and southern partners, championed by Ambassador Amrani, reflects a broader vision for a stable and secure future, built on collaborative efforts and mutual respect.
