Paris 2024 Olympics: IOC Quashes Cancellation Rumors, Denounces Disinformation Campaign
In a decisive move to quell swirling rumors, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has firmly dispelled speculations of a last-minute cancellation or postponement of the 2024 Paris Summer Games. The IOC attributed the unfounded claims to a "disinformation campaign" against France.
"This clearly forms part of the ongoing disinformation campaign against France, the IOC, its President, and the Olympic Games," stated the IOC in a release on Wednesday evening. "This information has no factual basis. The IOC President and the entire Olympic Movement are looking forward to the excellent Olympic Games Paris 2024, starting with the Opening Ceremony on July 26."
IOC President Thomas Bach and the entire Olympic movement eagerly await the start of the Summer Games on July 26, reaffirming their steadfast commitment to the Parisian spectacle.
Earlier, the French magazine "Le Point" had speculated that Bach had set a mid-July deadline to decide on the potential cancellation of the Olympic Games, citing alleged concerns over France's political climate following the strong performance of the far-right National Rally party in the first round of legislative elections.
In response to the unfounded rumors, organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have announced their intention to investigate the origins of the false information circulating about the potential cancellation of the Games. "Our Games will take place in Paris as scheduled. We have been preparing for them for years. They will bring joy to the entire world and pride to our country," declared Amélie Oudea-Castera, the French Minister of Sports, on X (formerly Twitter).
