Bonneuil-sur-Marne, France —A tranquil Eid al-Adha celebration turned tense on June 16 when an armed man intruded upon a gathering of approximately 2,000 people at a local gymnasium. The swift intervention of Mayor Denis Öztorun and courageous residents averted a potential tragedy, underscoring the community's resilience and solidarity.
The incident unfolded during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, a time typically marked by joy and communal prayers. As men, women, and children filled the gymnasium, an armed man suddenly entered, causing immediate alarm.
