Will Mbiakop: Morocco Will Guarantee a Major Success for the AFCON and the World Cup
From November 27 to 30, 2024, Tangier becomes the epicenter of international geopolitical discussions during the 16th edition of the MEDays Forum. Held under the theme of sovereignty and resilience, the event gathers leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss critical global issues with a focus on Africa’s strategic role in the new global order.
On the second day of the event, the development and sovereignty of African nations took center stage. As the continent is poised to play a pivotal role in global balances, discussions revolved around the need to strengthen the economic, social, and sports capabilities of African countries to position them as major players on the international stage.
In an exclusive statement to Walaw, Will Mbiakop, Executive President of the African Institute of Sports and Creation (ASCI), highlighted Morocco's strategic importance as a model of excellence in hosting major sporting events:
"I believe Morocco is ideally positioned to become a major reference in football with the 2025 AFCON and, of course, the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Under the enlightened vision of His Majesty and thanks to the exceptional work of the Moroccan team, Morocco has demonstrated its capacity to host world-class events. Whether in terms of infrastructure or hospitality, the country is ready to deliver success that will benefit not only Morocco but the entire African continent."
The MEDays Forum, renowned for its ability to bring together influential figures, once again confirmed its role as a crucial platform for addressing global challenges. Beyond sports-related themes, panels explored solutions to economic and political crises, ways to ensure sustainable energy sovereignty, and the challenges posed by climate change.
With its unique position bridging Europe and Africa, Tangier provided an ideal setting for these strategic discussions, symbolizing Morocco's role as a gateway between continents and a catalyst for international collaborations.
As Morocco prepares to host landmark sporting events and continues to play a leading diplomatic role, the ideas exchanged at MEDays 2024 underscore the importance of a shared vision for Africa’s development. Participants emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships and ensure reinforced sovereignty in key areas such as energy, food security, and innovation.
By placing Africa at the heart of discussions and celebrating its ambitions, the 2024 MEDays Forum laid the groundwork for a resilient and sovereign future, aligned with the continent’s aspirations.
