At the 16th MEDays International Forum, held in Tangier from November 27 to 30, 2024, Abdelhafid Oualalou, Vice President of the Moroccan Institute of International Relations, spoke to offer a detailed perspective on international issues and Morocco's strategic achievements. In an exclusive statement to Walaw, he emphasized the growing role of the Kingdom in shaping a new world order and the importance of diplomatic and economic initiatives in addressing current crises.

A Vision on Global Crises

In his address, Oualalou stressed the complexity of contemporary geopolitical challenges. He discussed conflicts in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, and regional tensions, while reaffirming Morocco's commitment to universal causes such as the defense of Palestine and Al-Quds.

"This forum is a space for reflection on international relations and the ongoing transformations. We analyze the current crises to propose responses suited to new challenges," he stated.

The Central Role of Parallel Diplomacy

In an exclusive analysis, Oualalou highlighted Morocco's parallel diplomacy as a valuable tool complementing the royal diplomacy. "Parallel diplomacy, driven by political parties, trade unions, experts, and civil society, strengthens Morocco's strategic gains, particularly on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara. Recent advances, such as France's recognition of the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, are the result of this collaboration," he explained.

According to him, this synergy between official diplomacy and parallel initiatives constitutes a key lever in consolidating Morocco's positions on the international stage.

The Development of the Southern Regions: A Tangible Reality

Abdelhafid Oualalou also emphasized Morocco's efforts to transform the southern regions into economic development hubs. He mentioned strategic projects such as the Tiznit-Dakhla highway, the Dakhla Atlantic port, medical and educational infrastructure in Laâyoune, and the water desalination plant.

"These projects, carried out under the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, reflect Morocco's determination to strengthen the economic integration of these regions and attract foreign investment," he stated.

A Measured Optimism for the Future

For Oualalou, Morocco's diplomatic and economic efforts are yielding concrete results. "Every month, we record new accomplishments regarding the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara. Time is on our side, and we are confident that this momentum will continue," he declared.

He also praised ongoing projects such as the Dakhla highway and port, which represent major advances in boosting the attractiveness of the southern provinces and contributing to their international visibility.

A Platform for Dialogue and Action

Finally, Abdelhafid Oualalou underscored the importance of the MEDays forum as a space for reflection and dialogue to address global transformations. He reaffirmed the centrality of the Moroccan Sahara issue in the Kingdom’s foreign policy while calling for collective mobilization to overcome current challenges.

The MEDays 2024, highlighted by interventions such as Oualalou's, strengthens Morocco's position as a key player in international relations, showcasing concrete solutions and strategic initiatives for a more balanced and resilient future.
