Jack Doohan reveals death threats before Alpine exit

Australian Formula One driver Jack Doohan has said he received multiple death threats and encountered armed men shortly before losing his seat with Alpine in 2025. The claims appear in the latest season of Netflix’s Drive to Survive, released this week, shedding light on the off-track pressures facing drivers.

Doohan said the threats began ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, with messages warning he would be killed if he remained in the car. He told Netflix he received emails detailing violent acts and stating he would be targeted during the race weekend. He later reported seeing three armed individuals at the event and contacted police for assistance.

The incidents unfolded during a difficult start to his first full Formula One season. Doohan crashed in Melbourne and during practice in Japan, and was involved in a collision with Liam Lawson in Miami. After six races, Alpine replaced him with Argentine rookie Franco Colapinto. Neither driver scored points as the team finished last in the constructors’ championship.

Doohan said the abuse continued after his removal, extending to his family through online messages. He described a wave of hostile posts, including criticism from some supporters in Argentina. His teammate Pierre Gasly later said discussion around Doohan on social media had become toxic.

After leaving Alpine, Doohan joined Haas as a reserve driver. His account has intensified debate over online harassment in Formula One and renewed calls for stronger measures to protect drivers’ mental health and digital security.
