Pezeshkian says progress in negotiations depends on US commitment

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that meaningful progress in ongoing negotiations with the United States will depend on Washington’s commitment to implementing the terms agreed upon during recent diplomatic discussions.

His remarks came following a round of talks held in Switzerland with the support of regional mediators. Pezeshkian emphasized that successful negotiations require more than public statements, arguing that concrete actions and respect for mutual commitments are essential for building trust between the parties.

According to the Iranian president, the effectiveness of any agreement should be measured by its practical implementation rather than by political declarations. He stressed that adherence to agreed responsibilities remains the key factor in determining whether negotiations can move forward.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials announced the creation of several specialized working groups tasked with addressing major issues under discussion. These groups are expected to focus on areas such as sanctions relief, nuclear-related matters, reconstruction efforts, and monitoring mechanisms designed to oversee the implementation of future agreements.

The negotiations have also been accompanied by reports of potential economic developments, including discussions surrounding sanctions policies and access to Iranian financial assets. Such issues remain central to the broader diplomatic process between Tehran and Washington.

At the same time, differences in interpretation continue to emerge between the two sides regarding certain aspects of the talks. Statements from American and Iranian officials have occasionally reflected contrasting views on what has been agreed upon, highlighting the complexity of the negotiations.

On the American side, President Donald Trump reiterated that the United States expects Iran to respect any commitments reached during the discussions. U.S. officials have also pointed to issues related to maritime security and international oversight as important components of future agreements.

Analysts note that despite signs of dialogue and diplomatic engagement, significant challenges remain. Long-standing disagreements over sanctions, regional security, and nuclear activities continue to shape relations between the two countries.

The latest round of talks nevertheless reflects ongoing efforts by both sides to explore avenues for reducing tensions and finding common ground on issues that have affected regional stability and international diplomacy for many years.
