Iran rejects U.S. demand for all enriched uranium

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian stated on Saturday that the United States demanded that Iran hand over all its enriched uranium in exchange for a three-month extension of suspended sanctions, calling the request “unacceptable.”

“They want us to give them all our enriched uranium,” Pezeshkian said on state television before leaving New York, where he attended the United Nations General Assembly, for Tehran.

He warned that in a few months, the U.S. might present new demands and seek to reinstate the snapback mechanism for UN sanctions, which is set to take effect unless there is a last-minute diplomatic intervention between Saturday night and Sunday.

The remarks highlight growing tensions between Tehran and Washington over the nuclear agreement and the future of sanctions relief for Iran.
