Souk Larbaa prison denies allegations of mistreatment

The local prison of Souk Larbaa Local Prison has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media claiming that a detainee was subjected to mistreatment, including denial of medical care, food, and drinking water.

In an official statement, the administration rejected the claims as unfounded and misleading. It stressed that the detainee, identified by initials (AL), is serving a sentence for serious charges, including criminal association, voluntary homicide, aggravated theft, drug trafficking and consumption, attempted robbery, assault with a bladed weapon, and threats to commit a crime.

The prison authorities emphasized that the detainee has never been subjected to inhumane or degrading treatment within the facility. They also confirmed that he suffers from asthma and has received consistent medical care, including six medical examinations conducted by the prison doctor.

According to the statement, the detainee was provided with an appropriate inhaler and continues to receive regular medical monitoring in line with established healthcare protocols in Moroccan correctional institutions under the supervision of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration.

The administration also clarified that meals are provided regularly to all inmates under standard nutritional and hygiene conditions. Access to drinking water is guaranteed through cell facilities, and detainees are allowed showers and daily outdoor walks in accordance with internal regulations.

The statement concluded that the prison remains committed to respecting legal standards and ensuring humane detention conditions while maintaining order and security within the facility.
