BYD unveils fast charging system for EVs
Chinese automaker BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of electric vehicles (EVs), has introduced a groundbreaking battery charging system that can power EVs in just five minutes. The new “Super e-Platform,” unveiled at an online event on Monday, boasts a maximum charging capacity of 1,000 kilowatts (kW), enabling an EV to gain 400 kilometers of range within five minutes, according to Wang Chuanfu, the company’s founder and CEO.
Initially, this technology will be available on two BYD models: the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV, priced starting at 270,000 yuan ($37,324 USD).
In February, BYD’s EV sales surged by 7.4% compared to the previous month and increased by 164% year-on-year, reaching 322,846 units.
The company plans to build over 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across China and has announced a $5.6 billion fundraising effort to support its research and development initiatives, as well as its international expansion.
