Millions of Telefonica users across Spain faced significant service interruptions on Tuesday, losing access to landline phones, internet services, and emergency lines. This incident occurred less than a month after the country experienced a nationwide blackout that had already affected communications infrastructure. The disruptions impacted key regions such as Andalusia, the Basque Country, and Valencia. According to a company representative cited by the Spanish newspaper El Pais, a network update carried out overnight triggered a technical failure. Landlines were the most severely affected, though internet connectivity was also disrupted for many customers. Emergency number 112 was unavailable in multiple areas but has been partially restored in some regions. This communication breakdown comes on the heels of Spain’s recent power outage, which had similarly caused widespread loss of both internet and telephone services, with emergency lines struggling to regain full functionality even after power was restored.
