Spanish winger Lamine Yamal reignited tensions ahead of the UEFA Nations League semi-final against France by sharing a video on Instagram. The clip showed his goal against France in last year’s Euro 2024 semi-final.

The timing drew immediate attention. French daily L’Équipe described the post as a subtle provocation, suggesting Yamal was mocking the French team. The paper called him a master of “provocative Instagram stories.”

Yamal’s goal had been crucial in the Euro clash. At 16, he scored a powerful long-range shot that equalized the match. Spain later completed a comeback to win 2-1 and advance to the final in Berlin.

Before the game, French midfielder Adrien Rabiot had publicly challenged Yamal, saying he would “need to do more” to reach the final. Yamal responded with his memorable goal, widely regarded as one of the tournament’s best.

Now 17, Yamal’s Instagram post shows clear confidence ahead of the Nations League match in Stuttgart. Spain enters the semi-final as reigning champions of the Nations League and fresh Euro winners. The team is led by coach Luis de la Fuente and features Yamal on the left wing alongside Nico Williams.

France reached the semi-final after a penalty shootout victory over Croatia, but injury concerns affect their defense. Key defenders Jules Kounde, William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano, and midfielder Eduardo Camavinga are sidelined. Coach Didier Deschamps must rely on a makeshift backline.

Despite defensive issues, France’s attack remains potent. Kylian Mbappe is set to start, with Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise competing for spots in the frontline. Young talent Desire Doue could appear from the bench.

The match kicks off at 8 p.m. Moroccan time (GMT+1). Both sides aim to reach the Nations League final and claim a second title, a first in the competition’s history.
