UK detains five men including four Iranians in suspected terror plot
British authorities have detained five men, including four of Iranian nationality, under suspicion of involvement in a terrorist plot, according to a statement from London's Metropolitan Police.
The arrests took place in various locations including London, Swindon, and the Greater Manchester area. The suspects, aged between 29 and 46, are being held on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act and remain in custody. The nationality of one individual is still being verified.
According to the police, the case revolves around a suspected plan to attack a particular location. While the site in question has not been disclosed for operational security reasons, law enforcement officials have contacted those associated with it, offering guidance and support.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s counter-terrorism command, emphasized the dynamic nature of the investigation. “We are working closely with the affected site and exploring multiple lines of inquiry to determine the possible motivation and any further threats to public safety,” he stated.
Murphy also called on the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity. He thanked officers across the country, especially those in Greater Manchester and Wiltshire, for their cooperation.
As part of the ongoing investigation, several properties in London, Swindon, and Greater Manchester are being searched. The operation is being conducted with the support of regional police forces and the national counter-terrorism unit.
