Ziyech weighs move to Romania’s CFR Cluj amid Genoa interest
Hakim Ziyech, the Moroccan winger and former Chelsea star, could soon embark on a surprising chapter in his career. At 32 and currently a free agent, Ziyech has reportedly drawn interest from Romanian club CFR Cluj and Italian Serie A side Genoa.
Once a €40 million signing for Chelsea in 2020, Ziyech spent three seasons at Stamford Bridge before moving to Galatasaray in Turkey and later Al-Duhail in Qatar. Since leaving Al-Duhail in July, Ziyech has been without a club, but that may soon change.
According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, CFR Cluj is keen to secure Ziyech’s signature, with the player expected to announce his decision as early as Monday. In addition to Cluj’s interest, Genoa is also pursuing the Moroccan international. Ziyech, currently in the Netherlands, is said to be consulting with family before finalizing his next move, as reported by Africa Foot.
Ziyech’s recent career has been marked by mixed performances. While at Galatasaray, he recorded eight goals and five assists in 34 appearances but struggled to deliver consistently. Despite this, the winger’s experience in top European leagues and his creative flair continue to make him an attractive prospect for clubs seeking attacking reinforcements.
The player’s recent time in the Netherlands also saw him attending a court hearing in Amsterdam to support his friend, Quincy Promes. With both Cluj and Genoa eager to add him to their squads, Ziyech’s next move could prove pivotal in revitalizing his career.
