Zakaria El Ouahdi named best Maghreb player in the Belgian Pro League
Moroccan international Zakaria El Ouahdi has been awarded the 2025 Belgian Lion, a distinction honoring the best Maghreb-origin player competing in the Belgian Pro League, according to his club Racing Genk.
At just 23 years old, El Ouahdi captured 40.5% of the votes, placing him well ahead of fellow Moroccan and Union Saint-Gilloise player Sofiane Boufal, who received 12.7%.
El Ouahdi became an essential figure for Genk last season, making 40 appearances, scoring 8 goals, and delivering 2 assists. In the current campaign, he has already accumulated 12 matches, contributing 4 goals and 1 assist before being sidelined since September due to a shoulder injury.
Despite his recent absence, his impact on the pitch and his consistent performances have earned him recognition as one of the most influential Maghreb players in Belgian football today.
