Wrestler Andy “The Butcher” Williams dies at 48 after collapsing during match

Professional wrestler Andy “The Butcher” Williams has died at the age of 48 after suffering a medical emergency during a wrestling event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Williams was competing in a tag-team match for Enjoy Wrestling, a Pittsburgh-based promotion, when the incident occurred. The wrestler, who had also been associated with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), was performing alongside his longtime tag-team partner Jesse “The Blade” Guilmet.

According to emergency information cited by US media, Williams reportedly struck his head against one of the ring posts during the match before collapsing shortly afterward. Medical personnel at the venue immediately intervened and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while emergency services were contacted.

The wrestling promotion later confirmed that the situation had become a serious medical emergency and that Williams had been taken to hospital. The remainder of the event was subsequently cancelled as efforts continued to save his life.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed Williams’ death. He passed away on Saturday following the emergency that occurred during the previous evening’s event.

The official cause of death has not yet been publicly established. Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, and further details are expected once the medical investigation is completed.

Williams was remembered by Enjoy Wrestling with a brief tribute on social media, describing him as “Butcher forever”. His death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from members of the wrestling community and fans who followed his career.

Known to many wrestling supporters as “The Butcher”, Williams built a reputation through his work on the independent wrestling scene and his appearances connected to AEW. His death at 48 has once again highlighted the physical risks professional wrestlers can face inside the ring.
