Von der Leyen warns EU lawmakers against “divisions that enemies could exploit”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has urged members of the European Parliament to remain united, warning that internal divisions could be used by the EU’s adversaries.

Speaking before MEPs in Strasbourg, Von der Leyen, who is currently facing two motions of censure, stressed the importance of solidarity in an increasingly volatile world.
“It is about uniting around our common goals to act in the interests of Europeans in this dangerous world,” she said during her address.

The Commission president cautioned lawmakers that “our adversaries are not only ready to exploit every division — they actively fuel them.”

The censure motions, initiated by different parliamentary groups, reflect growing political tensions over the Commission’s handling of migration, environmental reforms, and budgetary policies. Nevertheless, analysts believe the motions are unlikely to pass, as Von der Leyen continues to enjoy support from a majority of centrist and liberal deputies.
