Vietnam prepares mass evacuations ahead of Typhoon Bualoi

Hanoi – Authorities in Vietnam announced plans to evacuate more than 250,000 people on Sunday as Typhoon Bualoi approaches the country’s central coast. The storm, the tenth to hit Vietnam this year, is currently over the sea with sustained winds of around 130 km/h and is expected to make landfall at 7 p.m. local time (12:00 GMT), according to the national meteorological agency.

Danang, the largest city in central Vietnam, has begun preparing the evacuation of over 210,000 residents, state media reported. In addition, more than 32,000 people in the historic city of Hue and 15,000 in Ha Tinh province have also been asked to leave vulnerable areas.

“I feel a bit anxious, but I remain hopeful everything will turn out fine. We were all safe after the recent Typhoon Kajiki. I hope this one will be similar or less severe,” said Nguyen Cuong, a 29-year-old resident of Ha Tinh.

Authorities have also mobilized emergency teams, reinforced shelters, and urged fishermen to return to port. The coming hours will be crucial in determining the scale of Bualoi’s impact on Vietnam’s coastal communities and industrial areas.
