United States signals stronger pressure on Cuba amid rising diplomatic tensions

The United States has intensified its rhetoric toward Cuba, with senior American officials declaring that Washington is determined to push for political and economic change on the island amid growing bilateral tensions.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Cuba’s current economic and political system is failing and argued that reforms under the existing structure would not solve the country’s deepening crisis. Speaking in Miami, Rubio emphasized that the United States intends to maintain pressure while favoring diplomatic measures over military action.

The comments come shortly after U.S. judicial authorities announced charges against former Cuban leader Raúl Castro in connection with a decades-old case involving the deaths of anti-Castro activists in the 1990s.
