United left slightly ahead of Dati in first round of Paris municipal race

A united left-wing list led by Socialist candidate Emmanuel Grégoire, running without the support of La France Insoumise (LFI), is projected to narrowly lead the first round of the Paris municipal elections, according to a recent opinion poll released on Saturday.

The survey suggests that four candidates could qualify for the second round scheduled for March 22, following the first round on March 15. Grégoire’s coalition is followed closely by Rachida Dati, the right-wing candidate backed by the Republicans and centrist allies, while Pierre-Yves Bournazel, supported by the Horizons party and the presidential majority, ranks third. LFI candidate Sophia Chikirou appears to be hovering around the qualification threshold.

The left-wing alliance, bringing together Socialists, Greens, Communists and former LFI members, is credited with around 30% of voting intentions, a slight decline compared with earlier polling but still enough to place it marginally ahead. Dati is estimated at 28%, reflecting a modest rise and confirming a tight race within the margin of error.

Pierre-Yves Bournazel is projected at 16%, consolidating his position as a potential kingmaker ahead of the runoff. Meanwhile, Sophia Chikirou’s list stands at around 10%, the minimum required to advance. On the far right, candidates from Reconquête and the National Rally trail behind, each remaining below the qualification threshold.

The poll was conducted online between January 5 and 9 among a representative sample of Paris voters registered on the electoral roll.
