Typhoon Bualoi leaves 35 dead in Vietnam and the Philippines
The death toll from Typhoon Bualoi has risen sharply as authorities in Vietnam and the Philippines assess the damage left in its wake. On Monday, officials confirmed at least 11 fatalities in Vietnam and 24 in the Philippines, where the storm first made landfall late last week.
Bualoi struck the Vietnamese coast on Sunday evening with winds reaching 130 km/h, before weakening as it moved toward neighboring Laos. Images from the coastal province of Nghe An showed flooded streets, torn-off rooftops, and scattered debris. In Quang Tri province, residents described seeking shelter as powerful gusts ripped apart their homes.
In the Philippines, emergency services continue rescue and recovery efforts, with thousands displaced by floods and landslides. The storm has underscored once again the vulnerability of Southeast Asia to extreme weather events, which have become increasingly frequent and destructive.
