Two men jailed after severely injured man found in German forest

German and French authorities are continuing investigations after a 28-year-old man was discovered critically injured in a forest near the city of Sarrelouis in Germany. Two suspects have since been arrested and placed in pretrial detention as part of the ongoing criminal inquiry.

According to judicial officials in the French city of Metz, the suspects, aged 36 and 20, face charges including kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and attempted murder. Prosecutors believe the older suspect played a direct role in the violent attack, while the younger man is suspected of assisting him.

The victim was found last week in a wooded area close to the German-French border. Emergency services transported him to hospital in critical condition, where he reportedly remained in a coma on Friday evening. Authorities have not publicly released information concerning the identities or nationalities of either the victim or the suspects.

Investigators located the two suspects at a campsite near Remiremont, in northeastern France, following a large-scale operation involving French law enforcement units and specialized security teams. Officials said extensive investigative resources were mobilized to track down the individuals connected to the case.

Local media reports indicated that the victim suffered multiple serious wounds and burns. However, prosecutors have remained cautious about confirming specific details while the investigation continues. Authorities have also avoided endorsing speculation circulating in some media outlets regarding the possibility of a planned ambush.

The case has drawn attention on both sides of the border due to the violent nature of the attack and the cooperation required between French and German authorities. Cross-border criminal investigations have become increasingly important in Europe as security agencies work together to address organized and violent crime.

Judicial officials stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and possible motives behind the assault.
