Two fugitive brothers killed after stabbing police officer in Salé operation

Two brothers wanted in connection with a homicide investigation were fatally shot during a police intervention in the Moroccan city of Salé after violently resisting arrest and injuring a police officer, authorities said.

The operation took place in the Salé, where security forces were acting on intelligence related to a murder case in the nearby area of Aïn Atiq. The suspects were reportedly being tracked as part of a joint operation involving local police and the Royal Gendarmerie.

According to initial findings, the situation escalated when officers attempted to arrest the two men, who allegedly responded with extreme violence using bladed weapons. During the confrontation, one of the suspects stabbed a police officer in the chest, causing serious injuries and placing the security team in immediate danger.

Authorities stated that the suspects were in a highly agitated state and posed an imminent threat to both law enforcement officers and public safety. Faced with the escalating violence, officers discharged their service weapons in order to neutralize the attackers and prevent further harm.

The exchange of fire resulted in both suspects being critically injured. A gendarme also reportedly fired his weapon during the operation. The individuals were later transported to hospital for treatment, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Security forces recovered the weapons used in the attack at the scene. Officials confirmed that the intervention successfully prevented further escalation and secured the area.

A judicial investigation has been launched under the supervision of the public prosecutor to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and to examine the original homicide case for which the brothers were being sought.
