Two fishermen rescued, one missing after boat capsizes in Boujdour
A maritime accident occurred Saturday morning off the coast of Aftissat, near Boujdour, southern Morocco, when a traditional fishing boat capsized in rough seas. Two fishermen were rescued, but a third remains missing, local sources reported.
The incident took place around 7 a.m., as the crew was returning to shore. Strong waves and turbulent waters caused the boat to overturn suddenly. The two survivors managed to escape despite the violent conditions, while the third fisherman is still unaccounted for.
Search and rescue operations were promptly launched, involving the Royal Gendarmerie, the maritime fishing delegation, and local authorities. Extensive patrols and searches are ongoing in the area where the accident occurred.
This incident comes during the winter octopus fishing season, highlighting the persistent risks faced by artisanal fishermen along the province’s coastline. Families of the missing sailor remain anxious but hopeful that he will be found safe.
