Two brothers charged with intentional homicide after three months under hospital supervision
Two brothers accused of killing a young man in the Aïn Atiq area have been transferred from Moulay Abdellah Regional Hospital in Salé to judicial authorities after spending nearly three months receiving treatment under police supervision.
The two men, born in 1963 and 1968 in Khémisset, appeared before the prosecutor general at the Rabat Court of Appeal on Saturday, according to the Moroccan newspaper Al Akhbar. Following their questioning, the prosecutor referred the case to an investigating judge and requested a deeper judicial investigation.
The investigating judge subsequently ordered both suspects to be remanded in custody at Tamesna prison, near Rabat, on suspicion of intentional homicide.
Arrest followed an armed confrontation
The case dates back to June 20, when security forces intervened to arrest the two brothers, who were being sought in connection with the death of a man in his twenties.
The operation involved members of the Royal Gendarmerie from Témara and police officers from Salé. According to the reported account, the suspects resisted the arrest with bladed weapons, creating what authorities described as an immediate threat to the intervention team.
Police officers then used their service weapons, striking both men in the lower limbs. They were subsequently transported to hospital for medical treatment and remained there under surveillance for approximately three months.
The security operation had already been described by local authorities as a high-risk intervention because of the alleged behavior of the suspects and the weapons they were carrying.
Investigators examine a possible motive
According to the investigation cited by Al Akhbar, the two brothers live in Salé and own a country house on the outskirts of Aïn Atiq.
Investigators allege that the victim had been invited to the property for a meal before the confrontation. The suspects reportedly told investigators that they wanted to retaliate against the young man, whom they accused of repeatedly attacking them and targeting their interests in the area.
The investigation further alleges that the victim was stabbed several times in different parts of his body.
These elements remain part of the judicial investigation, and the brothers are formally being prosecuted as suspects rather than having been convicted.
Police account highlights the danger of the arrest
A statement from security authorities in Salé said that a police officer and an inspector assigned to the Layayda area were forced to draw their service weapons during the intervention.
According to the statement, the two individuals displayed strong resistance and used bladed weapons, creating an immediate danger to members of the public, property and the officers involved in the operation.
The use of firearms during the arrest enabled authorities to neutralize the suspects and end the immediate threat, after which both men were taken to hospital.
Judicial investigation now underway
With the suspects transferred to Tamesna prison, the case has entered a new judicial phase.
The investigating judge is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the death, the alleged motive, the sequence of events at the Aïn Atiq property and the circumstances of the police intervention.
The investigation will also have to establish the precise responsibility of each suspect and assess the evidence collected during the proceedings.
The case remains subject to the decisions of the Moroccan justice system as the investigation continues.
