Trump urges New Yorkers to support Andrew Cuomo against Zohran Mamdani in mayoral race
On the eve of New York City’s mayoral election, President Donald Trump delivered a striking endorsement for former Governor Andrew Cuomo, urging New Yorkers to vote for him over Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani. Trump described Mamdani as a “Communist” and warned that his victory would lead to an “economic and social disaster” for the city.
In a message posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that he would limit federal support to New York City if Mamdani won, arguing that the city would have “zero chance of success or even survival” under what he called “Communist leadership.”
Trump emphasized that as president, his duty was to manage the nation responsibly, saying he did not want to “send good money after bad.” He encouraged New Yorkers to rally behind Cuomo, despite the former governor’s controversial past, claiming that Cuomo represented “the only viable path” to prevent the city from “total collapse.”
The endorsement marks one of Trump’s most direct interventions in a local race since returning to office, further fueling the heated atmosphere ahead of Tuesday’s vote.
