Trump launches fierce attack on the UN and Europe

U.S. president Donald Trump delivered a combative speech before the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, targeting both the UN and Europe while promoting his hardline agenda on immigration and climate policy.

Unlike his 2018 address, which sparked laughter among delegates, Trump’s latest remarks were met with silence as he celebrated what he called a new “golden age” for America, listing his economic achievements and claiming to have ended “seven wars.”

Trump mocked the UN, saying the institution had given him nothing but “a broken escalator and a broken teleprompter.” He accused the organization of funding migration policies that, in his words, “attack Western nations and their borders.” He also warned European countries refusing to adopt mass deportations of undocumented migrants that they would “go to hell.”

The president doubled down on his climate skepticism, dismissing global warming as “the greatest scam ever” and condemning Europe’s energy transition policies. He argued that so-called “globalist ideas” undermine industrial nations and disrupt their societies.

On international conflicts, Trump rejected the recognition of a Palestinian state, describing it as a “reward” for Hamas. He accused India and China of financing Russia’s war in Ukraine and urged Europeans to halt all Russian energy imports, while threatening sanctions against Moscow.

UN secretary-general António Guterres, speaking before Trump, defended multilateralism, the rule of law, and human rights as the foundation of international cooperation.

During his stay in New York, Trump is scheduled to meet Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, Argentine president Javier Milei, and leaders from several Muslim-majority nations. He also announced an upcoming meeting with Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, despite their ongoing political differences.
