Tragic Yacht Sinking Off Sicily: Names of the Missing and Rescued

A rescue operation is underway off the coast of Sicily following the sinking of the British-flagged luxury yacht Bayesian, which went down amid severe weather conditions early Monday morning. The yacht, known for its opulence, was caught in a freak storm, leading to one confirmed fatality and the ongoing search for six individuals who remain missing.

Missing Individuals

The six people who are still unaccounted for have been identified

Mike Lynch

The 59-year-old British tech entrepreneur, renowned for founding Autonomy and selling it to Hewlett-Packard in 2011, was aboard the yacht. Lynch, who was recently acquitted of fraud charges in the United States, had been embroiled in a decade-long legal battle. He has expressed concerns about the disparity in legal protections for those without substantial financial resources.

Hannah Lynch

Mike Lynch's 18-year-old daughter is also missing. She had just completed her A-levels and was set to study English at Oxford University.

Chris Morvillo

A prominent lawyer at Clifford Chance in New York, Morvillo had previously served as an assistant attorney for the Southern District of New York. His work included involvement in high-profile cases related to the 2001 World Trade Center attacks.

Neda Morvillo

The American jewellery designer and wife of Chris Morvillo is also among the missing. Clifford Chance expressed profound sadness over the situation, highlighting the impact on Morvillo’s colleagues and family.

Jonathan Bloomer

Chairman of Morgan Stanley International and Hiscox, Bloomer was on the yacht alongside his wife. Bloomer, who has a long history of service in various business and charity roles, was a close friend of Mike Lynch.

 Judy Bloomer

Jonathan Bloomer’s wife, a respected charity trustee and supporter of gynaecological cancer research, is also missing. Her contributions to women’s health have been widely recognized, and her disappearance has elicited a wave of concern from her colleagues and the charity community.

Rescued Individuals

Among the 15 people rescued from the vessel, nine were crew members. The remaining six include

Charlotte Golunski

A British national who was traveling with her partner and infant daughter. Golunski, a partner at Invoke Capital, described the harrowing experience of keeping her daughter above water.

Ayla Ronald

A lawyer from New Zealand working with Clifford Chance and involved in Mike Lynch’s legal team, Ronald was also rescued along with her partner.

Angela Bacares

Mike Lynch’s wife, who suffered minor injuries and is receiving medical attention. Bacares was using a wheelchair following the incident, according to reports.

The search and rescue efforts are being led by Italian firefighters, who resumed their operations early Tuesday morning in the hopes of locating the missing individuals. The tragic event has cast a somber shadow over the luxury yachting community and beyond, as families and friends await news of their loved ones.
